Artist Statement
My work is rooted in observation and a fascination with the stories people carry. Through portraiture and figurative art, I explore identity, connection and the ways our experiences shape who we become.
Working primarily in oil, graphite and charcoal, I create contemporary realist works that seek to capture both the physical presence of a subject and something of the life that exists beneath the surface. While likeness is important, my interest extends beyond appearance. I am drawn to the details that make each person unique—their expressions, gestures, relationships, personal histories and the traces of a life lived.
Many of my works begin with people, but they are ultimately about connection. Whether through portraiture, figurative work or future collections, I am interested in the ways individuals express themselves, preserve memories and create meaning within their lives. Objects, clothing, tattoos, symbols and environments can all become part of a visual narrative, offering insight into identity and experience.
My practice is grounded in careful observation and a commitment to realism. Through attention to light, form and detail, I aim to create work that feels honest, intimate and enduring. I hope my paintings and drawings encourage viewers to slow down, look closely and consider the stories that connect us to one another.
At its heart, my work is an exploration of humanity—of who we are, where we come from and the experiences that leave their mark upon us.
